This dessert just screams fall! To fully appreciate this dessert, serve both the cake and the sauce warm!

Cardamom coffee cake with spiced dried plums
1lb butter
2 cups brown sugar
4 eggs
2 tsp almond extract
4 cups flour
2 tsp baking powder
2 ½ tsp baking soda
½ tsp salt
1 T ground cardamom
2 cups sour cream
Cream together the butter and sugar; add eggs one at a time; add extract
In a separate bowl sift together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt
Alternatively add the flour mixture and sour cream to creamed butter, starting and ending with the sour cream
Pour into buttered dish; bake at 350 degrees till knife inserted in cake comes out clean (approx. 1 ½ hours)

For dried plums:
2 cups dried plums
1 cinnamon stick
¼ tsp ground cloves
¼ tsp ground all spice
2 cups water
1 ½ cups brown sugar
¾ cup red wine

Combine all ingredients in a pot; simmer gently 1 hour till thickened and plum plumped
